Vehicles & equipment |
| For most people considering an overland trip, the
choice of vehicle and the price of the tour is mind-boggling. The
design of the vehicle is reflected in the price of the tour as well
as the number of crew and whether there is a safari cook or not. Our
overland experts have chosen a selection of overland tours using various
vehicles that have been given a general description below. Beside
each tour there will be an indication of which of these vehicles will
be used on tour. |

Deluxe Truck |
 |
 |
 |
The deluxe trucks used on some
of our tours are Mercedes Benz vehicles, purpose-built as overland
trucks in the UK. All vehicles are fully lockable and each has
at least one safe. They have windows that slide across for game
viewing and photography, a fridge for cold drinks, a stereo,
comfortable forward or backward facing coach seats, some tables,
personal lockers for use during the day, interior and exterior
lighting, gas cooker, and ample storage space for luggage, tents,
food and cooking equipment. The deluxe trucks are crewed by
two experienced driver/mechanic/tour leaders, and a safari cook.

Small vehicles
|
 |
 |
 |
On short or small group overland
tours, 10-seater Mercedes and Toyota minibuses are used and
in east Africa and Mozambique, 4x4 Land Rovers are used. Some
are equipped with trailers and roof racks. For bigger groups
Toyota safari mini-trucks are used with 12 forward facing seats
and large on board packing space for equipment and baggage.
All vehicles carry tents, camp stools, cooking equipment and
cooler box. The small vehicles are crewed by an experienced
driver/mechanic and tour leader. On most of these shorter tours
the tour leader will do the cooking with the assistance of the
passengers.
