Tour Summary
15 Nights
Meals: 15 Breakfasts 14 Lunches 13 Dinners

Day 1: Gold Rushing in Francistown
Leaving Johannesburg you start your journey with a long and uneventful driving day to Francistown in Botswana. The site of southern Africa’s first ‘gold-rush’ in the 1800s, Francistown these days is Botswana’s second largest city and home to an energetic night life.
Day 2: Exploring Hwange National Park
Today is a shorter travel day as you continue your journey north and cross into Zimbabwe. Around the lunch hour, you’ll make it to Hwange National Park and begin a fantastic game drive in an open vehicle. The park is Zimbabwe’s largest, and has one of the largest population of elephants in Africa.
Days 3-4: Marveling at the Mighty Victoria Falls
After an early morning game drive in Hwange, drive north to the popular town of Victoria Falls where you can visit the mighty Falls in person. Known as ‘the smoke that thunders’ or Musi-o-tunya, if you’re there in the rainy season, you’ll understand why. The evening will be yours to explore this adventure town, and decide on where to have dinner.
Your second day in Vic Falls will be yours to partake in any of the optional adventure activities you’d want to do. Maybe you want to white water raft down the Zambezi, walk with the lions, or take a scenic flight over the Falls, the choose is yours. In the evening, why not book an optional cruise down the Zambezi River and observe the animals that live near its banks.
Days 5-7: Floating Down the Zambezi River
This morning cross into Zambia over the historic railway bridge that connects the two countries together at Victoria Falls. From Livingstone, it’ll be a long travel day to your camp for the evening.
The following day begin your two-night canoe excursion down the Zambezi into the Lower Zambezi National Park. Sit back and relax and enjoy the stunning scenery as the river isn’t very strong and by traveling down stream, you won’t be required to put in a lot of effort.
The evenings will be spent ‘bush camping’ on an island. Keep your eyes and ears open as you’ll be surrounded by hippos and other wildlife.
Day 8: Watch a stunning sunset on Lake Kariba
Finish your canoe excursion this morning as you board the overland truck and drive to Kariba for rest on this famous lake. Embark in the evening on a stunning optional sunset cruise.
Day 9: Exploring Caves in Chinhoyi
Getting back into the overland truck, you make your way back to Zimbabwe at the Chirundu Border. After the border formalities, you continue on to Chinhoyi. Known for cave diving, Chinhoyi has one of the most extensive caving systems in Zimbabwe which you’ll get to visit the next day.
Day 10: Hiking Through the Chimanimani Mountains
After a visit to the caves, it’s a quick drive to Harare – the capital of Zimbabwe – where you stop briefly for lunch, gather supplies, and do some exploration. In the afternoon, travel to the Chimanimani National Park in the Eastern Highlands. Marvel at the breathtaking scenery and mountain range once you arrive at the campsite, and take a short hike up to the renowned Bridal Veil Falls.
Day 11: Discovering the Chirinda Forest
Today you have the choice of either hiking in the Chimanimani National Park, or embarking on a day trip to Zimbabwe’s only rainforest – the Chirinda Forest. Situated on the Mozambique border, the Chirinda Forest is the southern most rainforest in Africa, and has some enormous mahogany trees.
Day 12: Heading to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins
Departing from the Chimanimani mountains, head for the world-famous Great Zimbabwe ruins. Built in the 11th century with out any mortar, some of the walls, even at 5m, are still standing today. Afterwards, head back to your camp site and relax around a fire, socialising with your fellow travellers.
Days 13-14: Game Viewing in Matobo National Park
Take the day to drive to the world heritage site of Matobo National Park, via the town of Bulawayo, where you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to relax.
Enjoy the next day a game drive in the Matobo National Park. The park has a large black and white rhino population thanks to successful breeding program. In the evening, you’ll return to Bulawayo for a delicious meal at one of its many restaurants.
Day 15: Crossing into South Africa
Your day will start with a visit to the Bulawayo Historical Museum before you start the journey back to South Africa. Crossing at the Buitbridge border, you’ll continue on to the town of Messina for the night. If permissible, head to the hot springs for a night of rest and relaxation.
Day 16: Tour Ends in Johannesburg
Leaving early, continue south along the Great North Road to your final destination of Johannesburg – the City of Gold. Your tour officially ends upon arrival in Johannesburg, but if time permits, why not have one final meal (not included) with your travel companions.
