Day 1: Heading South to Arusha
Leaving from Nairobi, head south crossing the border to Tanzania on your way to Arusha. This small town is safari central as most safaris for the northern circuit start here. Spend the afternoon preparing for your 3-night optional safari excursion.
Days 2-4: Exploring the Serengeti
Set out in 4x4 safari vehicles on your optional 3-night excursion into the famous Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. Spend the next three days exploring these amazing game parks as you search for the Big 5 and other wildlife.
Those not going on the excursion will get the chance to learn about the local culture as you explore the town of Karatu.
Day 5: Visiting the Masai Mara Museum
Today you’ll be reunited with your fellow travel companions as you return to Karatu from your safari. Over dinner, after a visit to the Masai Mara Museum, share your different experiences from over the last few days.
Day 6: Catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro
Today will be a long travel day as you head south to Lushoto in the Usambara Mountains. If the sky is clear as you pass Moshi, you may be able to catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro. In the evening, just sit back and relax at your campsite as you look out over the rolling hills.
Days 7-9: Spice Up Your Life on Zanzibar
Wake up early and continue driving south to Dar es Salaam where you’ll board a local ferry and begin your 3-day excursion to the island paradise of Zanzibar. Starting in Stone Town, you have the opportunity to head out and explore this fascinating town with its mix of architecture, and culture.
The following day transfer to the northern part of the island where you’ll spend the next two nights on the idyllic Indian Ocean. There are several optional activities for you to do such as diving and snorkeling excursions, swimming with dolphins, and tours of a spice plantation. Or simply relax on the beautiful white sandy beaches.
Day 10: Taking the Ferry Back to Dar es Salaam
Say goodbye to Zanzibar as you return to Stone Town and catch the late ferry back to Dar es Salaam. Tonight you will overnight in Dar es Salaam before continuing your journey southbound.
Day 11: Spot the Wildlife in Mikumi National Park
Departing from the humid conditions of Dar es Salaam, travel inland to the fascinating Mikumi National Park. This stunning smaller park is home to lion, wildebeest, buffalo, and elephant. Embark in the afternoon on an optional game drive to explore the park.
Day 12: Drinking Tea in Iringa
This morning continue to travel inland through the tea producing highlands of Iringa. In the evening, you’ll be entertained with a traditional Tanzanian show and dinner in a local Masai hut.
Day 13: Crossing into Malawi
Leave Tanzania behind as you cross into Malawi and head for your campsite at Chitimba Beach on the famous Lake Malawi. There are several optional activities to do, such as snorkeling, diving, or just relaxing on the beach enjoying the view.
Days 14-15: Relaxing on the Shores of Lake Malawi
After a short drive south, you come to Kande Beach, your accommodation for the next two nights. Again there are several optional activities for you to do such as horse-back riding and various water sports.
The next day, experience some Malawian culture and have a chance to meet the local people, as you partake in a guided village tour.
Day 16: Visit the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre
Set out this morning and travel south for awhile along Lake Malawi before turning west to the capital, Lilongwe. Spend the afternoon visiting the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre - the country’s only sanctuary for rescued wild animals.
Days 17-18: Searching for Hippos in South Luangwa
Following an early wake up, cross the border into Zambia as you drive to the South Luangwa National Park. Here you’ll spend the next two nights on the banks of the Luangwa River. Some times you can see hippos from the camp bar. In the afternoon, embark on an included sunset game drive into the park.
The following morning head out on another game viewing excursion and search for the elusive leopard who is in high concentration in the park. In the afternoon after lunch, visit a community-run tribal textile project and local village
Day 19: Overnight in Chipata
Today leave South Luangwa behind and travel to Chipata. It’s a relatively short drive so you should have most of the afternoon to explore this true African town.
Day 20: Experiencing Africa in Lusaka
Your journey takes you towards the bustling capital of Zambia, Lusaka. Notice how the vegetation along the roads has changed as well as the roads themselves. Zambia is truly Africa, and travel will become a little rougher for your last few days.
Day 21: Ending in Victoria Falls
This morning you travel to your last destination of the tour – Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. As your tour ends upon your arrival to Victoria Falls, we recommend that you spend 1-2 extra days in this exciting town so that you can truly appreciate it.
