    Day 1: Towards Arusha

    Leave the hustle and bustle of Nairobi behind and head south to the Tanzanian border. After crossing, you continue to the pretty town of Arusha, nestled on the slopes of Mount Meru. Close to a number of national parks, Arusha is the undisputed safari hub of the area, providing easy access to the fantastic wildlife destinations of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.

    Days 2-4: Into the Serengeti

    The optional 4-day camping trip begins with an early drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, stopping to visit famous Olduvai Gorge along the way. Explore the Ngorongoro and Serengeti for three days in open-topped safari vehicles on morning and afternoon game drives. The region is home to the Great Wildebeest Migration and Africa’s Big 5, and the abundance of animals here will take your breath away. Coupled with incredible scenery and savannah sunsets, the area is a photographer’s dream. 

    If you choose not to join the camping safari, there are many day trip options for you to choose from in Arusha, including game drives.

    Day 5: Return to Arusha

    Join up with the truck again at Kudu Lodge in Karatu and continue on to Arusha where you can swap stories about your adventures around the sparkling pool.

    Day 6: A mountain stopover

    Your journey to the coast stops over at the picturesque town of Lushoto in the Usumbara Mountains.

    Day 7: Stone Town, Zanzibar

    Depart Lushoto early for Dar es Salaam where you board a ferry bound for Zanzibar. This island is steeped in history and has a strong Arabic influence. Wander the fascinating cobbled streets of Stone Town and absorb the exotic atmosphere of a town where slavers, traders and colonialists have all left their mark.

    Days 8-9: Nungwi beaches

    Today you drive up to the north of the island where white sandy beaches, swaying palm trees and crystal-clear waters await. Optional activities include a spice tour, snorkelling and scuba diving, or you can simply chill out in a hammock on a beautiful beach. .

    Day 10: Dar es Salaam

    Return south to Stone Town to catch a late ferry back to Dar es Salaam - the City of Peace - where you meet up with your truck at Kipepeo Camp.

    Day 11: Mikumi National Park

    Today you drive away from the coast to Mikumi where an optional game drive gives you the chance to spot lion, buffalo and elephant as well as a multitude of antelope and birds.

    Day 12: The Maasai of Iringa

    You depart early for the drive to the tea-growing region of Iringa where you have the opportunity to enjoy an evening of Maasai food and traditional dancing.

    Day13: Lake Malawi

    You continue south across the border into Malawi and onto the shores of crystal-clear Lake Malawi, fringed by banana palms and papaya trees. Your destination has a golden sandy beach and a stunning backdrop of the Nyika and Livingstonia mountains - the perfect place to relax.

    Days 14-15: Kande Beach

    Follow the lakeshore down to Kande where you pass villages nestled in a beautiful landscape of lush valleys and rolling hills. Spend the next two days enjoying a host of optional activities such as horse riding, diving and snorkelling. A tour to the local village gives you a unique insight into the Malawian way of life.

    Day 16: Lilongwe

    Today you drive further south the city of Lilongwe to visit the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, a sanctuary for rescued wildlife set in picturesque woodlands. If you like, join an optional tour to take in the sights of the city.

    Days 17-18: The wilds of Zambia

    The journey today takes you across the border into Zambia and on to South Luangwa National Park. Camping on the banks of the Luangwa River, you can watch hippos and other animals from the comfort of the camp bar! Join a sunset game drive, keeping an eye out for the leopards for which this area is renowned. The following morning you have the option of a game drive or guided safari walk before visiting a village and a community textile project after lunch.

    Day 19: Visit Chipata

    After leaving South Luangwa, you arrive at the bustling town of Chipata. Characterised by colourful markets and mosques, this is a centre of commerce between Zambia and Malawi and you will see steady streams of traders and vehicles bearing goods.

    Day 20: Lusaka

    A long day’s drive past a succession of villages and markets delivers you to Lusaka, the thriving capital city of Zambia.

    Day 21: Victoria Falls

    Continue south and cross the border to arrive at Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls where the journey ends. This is the adrenalin capital of Southern Africa and with many exciting activities like bungee jumping and whitewater rafting on offer, we recommend you extend your stay here for another one or two nights.
