Day 1: Tasting Wines in Stellenbosch
Today depart Cape Town and drive to the stunning wine region of Stellenbosch. Here enjoy a tranquil lunch (own expense) and have the chance to visit a few wineries to sample the excellent wines of the area.
During whale watching season (between June and November), you’ll continue on to Hermanus – an idyllic coastal town which offers the best land-based viewing of these majestic creatures – for the night.
Day 2: Exploring the Cango Caves
Head inland and drive to the ostrich capital of South Africa, Oudtshoorn, where you’ll visit a local ostrich farm and have the chance to ride the largest bird in the world.
While in Oudtshoorn, visit the incredible attraction of the Cango Caves. These caves extend about 1.2 kms into the Swartberg Mountains and are an amazing array of stalagmite formations.
Day 3: Getting a Head’s Up in Knysna
Make your way back to the coast along some stunning country roads and arrive in the quaint oceanside town of Knysna, known for its sandstone cliffs, the Knysna Heads, and picturesque lagoon.
From here, there are several activities for you to do, or you could simply wander the town’s streets and explore the shops looking for interesting gifts for friends and family.
Days 4-5: Hiking Through the Tsitsikamma
Continue along the Garden Route to Stormsriver, your base for the next two nights. Explore the coastal park of Tsitsikamma – a national park that extends 80km along the rocky coastline offering some spectacular landscapes of high forests, deep river gorges, and dazzling ocean views.
Spend a day hiking on some of the best trails in South Africa, including the opportunity to hike the first few kilometers of the Otter Trail. Take the opportunity to bungee jump off of the world’s highest commercial bridge, or too much, take a canopy tour through the forests of Tsitsikamma.
Day 6: Meeting the Elephants of Addo
Experience a bit of wildlife as you travel to Addo Elephant National Park, home to over 450 elephants, the Cape buffalo, and other larger animals, as you drive through the park searching for the residential animals.
Day 7: Saying Goodbye in Port Elizabeth
After a morning game drive in Addo, drive east along the coast to the town of Port Elizabeth. Here your tour will come to an end once you arrive.
