    Day 1: Drive to the Masai Mara

    Depart Nairobi and head for the Masai Mara. For several months a year, this famous reserve is home to the spectacular Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles gather before flooding into the Serengeti. Outside of this period, there are still plenty of resident animals in the area for you to encounter. A Maasai cultural experience in a local community rounds off the day as you get to know your fellow travellers.

    Day 2: Take in Lake Naivasha

    Following an early morning Masai Mara game drive, you set off for Lake Naivasha, home to many hippos and a fantastic variety of birds. Relax on the lakeshore or try out a bicycle safari, looking for animals along the way. For a taste of Kenya’s colonial past, you can visit Elsamere, former home of Joy Adamson for an elegant high tea. (Not included).

    Day 3: Hell’s Gate & Lake Nakuru National Parks

    Driving on, your next encounter is with the wildlife wonders of Hell’s Gate National Park, where you keep an eye out for big cats and other classic African animals. Continue to Lake Nakuru for spectacular scenery, thousands of flamingos and the chance to spot a rare rhino in the wild.

    Day 4: Journey to Uganda

    After an early start, you drive to Kenya’s border with Uganda with a stop at the Equator along the way. Once in Uganda, drive through green rolling hills to Kampala, the capital city.

    Day 5: Explore Kampala or visit the Chimp Sanctuary

    Today you are free to wander the bustling markets and streets of Kampala, or to take a side trip to the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. This non-profit organisation provides a haven for chimps rescued from all over Africa, and is run as an eco-friendly sustainable project. (Not included).

    Day 6: Drive to Lake Bunyoni

    Travel through green and hilly countryside until you reach the beautifully scenic Lake Bunyoni. With excellent bird watching and great spots for swimming, this is an ideal place to relax before you head for the rainforest tomorrow.

    Days 7-8: Encounter the gorillas

    Two days are set aside to maximise your chances of a gorilla experience, as these animals can be hard to find. Encountering these remarkable great apes in their natural habitat is both humbling and exhilarating - a glimpse into the world of one of our closest relatives. With a flexible schedule, you are also able to explore the area on foot or by mountain bike, or take a boat to visit the Batwa (Pygmy) Tribe on their lake-islands (not included).

    Days 9-10: The wonders of Queen Elizabeth National Park

    Drive north to the wildlife haven of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This game reserve is made up of savannah grasslands, lush forests and volcanic peaks, and a wide diversity of species can be found here. On day ten, look out for elephants, buffalo and the famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha Sector during your game drive.

    Days 11-12: Jinja, the source of the Nile

    Drive east until you reach the town of Jinja, situated where the Nile flows out of Lake Victoria and begins its journey to the Mediterranean thousands of kilometres away. Explore the town with its crumbling Indian and colonial architecture or head to the river for a white water rafting adventure (not included).

    Day 13: Kenya & the Great Rift Valley

    Cross the border back into Kenya and arrive in the high-altitude city of Eldoret. Originally founded by Afrikaaners in 1910, it is now famous as a training ground for Kenya’s celebrated long and middle-distance runners.

    Day 14: Return to Nairobi
