With clear skies and a
starkly beautiful coastline, Swakopmund is the perfect destination
to go sky-diving - Namibia's ultimate adrenaline activity.
Swakopmund Skydiving Club runs extremely popular tandem free-fall
jumps for novices. Jumps take place daily, normally after the fog
has lifted in the morning. After a brief safety chat, you board a
small plane for a 35-minute scenic flight over Swakopmund and the
surrounding coast and desert as you prepare yourself for your jump.
This involves being strapped between the thighs of your tandem jump
master and shuffling to the door of the plane. At 12 000 ft you both
tumble into the sky for a mind-blowing 30 second free-fall at around
220 km per hour - a totally exhilarating experience. Then the
parachute opens and you float to the ground for a 10 minute ride
enjoying the breathtaking desert scenery.
