Parks & Destinations

The ease of Zanzibari life is best experienced in the laid-back villages on the beautiful beaches on the north coast around Nungwi and Jambiani on the east coast.

A walk through the narrow, twisting passageways of the capital, Stone Town, plunges you into the past.

Inland, Jozani Forest is Zanzibar’s only protected reserve, and the only place in Africa where the red colobus monkey can be found.

Wildlife

Jozani Forest contains a large mangrove swamp and a tract of natural forest that is home to a few unique species, including the red colobus monkey, Sykes monkey, bush babies, duikers, hyraxes, over 50 species of butterfly and 40 species of birds. It’s also rumoured to be the stomping ground of the rare Zanzibar leopard.

You can also snorkel in the well-stocked reefs, swim with dolphins and meet a hundred-year-old giant tortoise on Prison Island.

Overlanders
Thanks to the warm Indian Ocean, Zanzibar is the perfect spot to play in the water. Windsurfing, water skiing and sailing are great ways to ride the waves through the steady monsoon winds, and scuba diving and snorkelling are fabulous ways to see the veritable underwater gardens of the surrounding reefs.

No visit to Zanzibar is complete without some chill-out time on the beach, getting spicy on a Spice Tour and getting lost in Stone Town's maze of alleyways.
