28 days spent visiting famous national parks and trekking gorillas in the rainforests.

Begin your travels in Kenya before journeying across the border into Uganda. Stop along the banks of the Nile River before you embark on your gorilla trekking adventure.

Return to Kenya, where you will pass through the amazing Great Rift Valley on your way to the Masai Mara Game Reserve for some wildlife viewing.

Cross the border into Tanzania where you’ll visit the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park.

Travel by ferry to Zanzibar where you can spend some time on this beautiful tropical island.




DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Depart Nairobi
Meals: FB

Your journey kicks off in the pulsing city of Nairobi, Kenya's capital. From here you set off to the Great Rift Valley where you'll stop at Lake Nakuru National Park for the night.

Lake Nakuru is a shallow lake located in the centre of this national park. At the edges of this lake, you'll see the impressive sight of large numbers of flamingoes as they gather here to feed on the algae that live in these shallow waters.




Day 2: Stop Over in Eldoret
Meals: FB

Rise early and embark on the scenic journey through sprawling tea plantations as you make your way to Eldoret on the Ugandan frontier.

This town is a great place to stock up on supplies for the rest of the journey.




Days 3-4: Visit the Nile at Jinja
Meals: FB

Cross over the border into Uganda, where you'll set up camp on the banks of the Nile River near to the town of Jinja.

You'll have the opportunity to explore the nearby set of rapids known as Bujagali Falls. Make a voluntary contribution to the local community and help to refurbish local schools.

A variety of thrilling activities are available, including quad biking, village walks and, for the more intrepid, a bungee jump over the river.




Days 5-6: Explore Kampala

Set off for Uganda's buzzing capital, Kampala, where you can trawl the markets for curios and souvenirs.

Visit the Nakasero fresh food market and take in the vibrant atmosphere and the kaleidoscope of colourful piles of fruit, familiar and exotic alike.

In the evening, experience the nightlife at the many restaurants, bars and nightclubs in the city.




Day 7: Stop at Lake Bunyoni
Meals: FB

Travel southeast skirting Lake Victoria, as you head deep into the Kigezi Highlands. Stop en route at Lake Bunyoni, a picturesque flooded valley, before arriving at Bwindi National Park, an area famed for its gorilla populations.




Days 8-11: Trek Gorillas in the Rainforests
Meals: FB

Set off in small groups with your local guides and trackers through the rainforest in search of families of gorillas. Once you have found a family, you'll spend an hour observing them.

Because of the strict regulations with regard to gorilla viewing, your permit allows you only one gorilla trek and viewing. This may mean that you spend a few days here while all members of the group get a chance to experience this awe-inspiring occurrence.

On the days that you are not involved in gorilla trekking, take forest walks where you'll encounter some amazing wildlife and birdlife, or enjoy a community walk where you'll have the chance to meet some of the local people.




Day 12: Return to Kampala
Meals: FB
Return to Kampala where you can stock up on supplies for the next leg of your journey.


Day 13: Cross Over into Kenya
Meals: FB

After packing up camp, continue your journey across the border into Kenya.

Stop over night in Eldoret before the next day's journey.




Day 14: Pass Through the Great Rift Valley
Meals: FB

Travel further into Kenya, passing through the Great Rift Valley, and arriving at the cosmopolitan city of Nairobi, Kenya's capital.




Day 15: Explore Nairobi
Meals: FB

Take a city tour and discover this bustling metropolis, visiting the markets and shopping malls in search of curios and souvenirs.

Visit the Nairobi National Park; a great place to see rhino.




Day 16: Travel to the Masai Mara
Meals: FB

Set off across the Rift Valley on your way to the Masai Mara National Park. Depending on the time of year you choose to visit this area, you might witness the spectacular wildebeest migration.




Day 17: See Wildlife in the Mara
Meals: FB

Embark on morning and afternoon game drives in this excellent wildlife-viewing location. Look out for the Big 5, as well as predators such as cheetah and leopard, as well as vultures and hyena.




Day 18: Return to Nairobi
Meals: FB

Set out early for the return journey to Nairobi, stopping along the way at Lake Naivasha where birdlife is plentiful.

Spend the night in Nairobi, resting for the next leg of the journey.




Day 19: Journey to Arusha
Meals: FB

The morning brings with it the journey across the border into Tanzania.

Travel to the town of Arusha at the foot of Mount Meru. Visit the colourful, bustling markets before setting up camp just outside the city on the vast Masai plains.




Day 20: Visit the Mesereni Snake Park
Meals: FB

Pay a visit to the clock tower in Arusha, the halfway point between Cape Town and Cairo. Enjoy a walk or camel ride to a nearby Masai village where you can learn more about the local traditions and cultures, before getting better acquainted with some reptiles at the Meserani Snake Park.

Enjoy a leisurely evening in preparation for your journey to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.




Day 21: Explore Serengeti National Park

The wide, open expanses of the Serengeti National Park await you.

Waste no time in setting off on an afternoon game drive keeping an eye out for cheetah, lion, hyena and leopard, among others.




Day 22: Visit Olduvai Gorge and the Ngorongoro
Meals: FB

One final game drive precedes your departure to the Ngorongoro Crater. Along the way, stop at Olduvai Gorge, an ancient, dry lake that has yielded pivotal archeological finds, and is often referred to as the 'Cradle of Humankind'.

Set up camp on the rim of this famous crater.




Day 23: Travel Back to Arusha
Meals: FB

Descend into the crater for a morning of wildlife viewing in this famous reserve before travelling to the town of Arusha.

Enjoy a walk or camel ride to a nearby Masai village where you can learn more about the cultures and traditions of this mighty nation.




Day 24: Set Off For Dar es Salaam
Meals: FB

Continue your journey to the south, arriving at the port city of Dar es Salaam.

Set up camp on a beach just outside the city before exploring the busy markets.




Day 25: Ride the Ferry to Zanzibar
Meals: FB

A ferry ride takes you to the tropical island of Zanzibar.

Waste little time before setting off on an exploration of this beautiful island, known also as the 'Spice Island'. Take a Spice Tour, or explore the historic Stone Town. A visit to the bustling fish market is also recommended.




Day 26: Explore Zanzibar
Meals: FB

Spend some time relaxing on the idyllic beach at Nungwi, or plunge into the translucent waters and swim with dolphins. Set off on a tour of Prison Island, taking in the beautiful beaches here.




Day 27: Dive into the Sparkling Ocean
Meals: FB

The day is yours to enjoy the variety of activities on offer, including sailing, scuba-diving and snorkelling, or simply relax on the beautiful beaches and catch some sun.




Day 28: Homeward Bound
Meals: FB

Return by ferry to Dar es Salaam, where you can catch your outbound flight home.
