Kenya’s Wild Side Camping……As a nature lover, you will experience Kenya’s wild side up close on our adventurous camping safaris. You will camp under the open African sky, listen to the hyenas’ laugh at night and discover the soft tracks of antelopes on the dusty trail to the showers the next morning. If you are looking for an authentic nature experience away from civilization, our camping safari may quickly develop into your adventure of a lifetime.

During the day, you will explore the national park, scouting for the Big Five together with your guide in a Toyota Land Cruiser. Experience impressive wildlife sightings and admire vast landscapes. When the sun sets, you will head back over the bumpy roads to your campsite to dust off and spend the night.

Night time is a very special time on the campsite. Relax by the fire, sipping a drink and gazing at the endless starry night sky while chatting to your fellow travellers about the day’s adventures. You will notice how the sounds of the day fade and are replaced by the songs of the night birds, snapping of branches and with a little bit of luck the roar of a lion in the distance.

Distance approx. 280 km; driving time approx. 6-7 hours

After a short briefing about your upcoming safari and meeting your guide and fellow travellers, you embark on a trip of discovery in your 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser. The destination of your first day: the magical Masai Mara. Along the way you can enjoy stunning views across the Great Rift Valley, before driving deeper into Masai land. In the early afternoon, you will arrive in the Masai Mara and embark on your first game drive. You’ll be surprised how many animals you will see on only your first day! Look out for elephants, lions, giraffes and antelopes. When the sun sets, it’s time to settle at your campsite just outside the Game Reserve. Your first night in the bush is one you will remember for a long time to come – listen to the nightly bush concert while the stars twinkle high in the sky.

There’s no sleeping in when you’re in the middle of nature and you’ll be woken by the chirping of birds and the rising sun. A full day of game drives awaits! After a hearty breakfast, you have ample time to explore remote corners of this spectacular game reserve. If you visit during the Great Migration you may be in luck and visit a river-crossing when wildebeest and zebras plunge into the crocodile-infested waters when crossing the Mara River. Any time of the year the Masai Mara is home to various species: not only the Big Five, but many more such as hippos, waterbucks, hyenas, cheetahs and more than 400 bird species make the Mara a synonym for exciting safari experiences in East Africa. Since animals don’t mind borders, you can expect nightly visitors at your campsite. On a camping safari, you’re right in the middle of it all.

Today, you make your way to Lake Naivasha, passing by the inactive volcano Mt Longonot. Be prepared for a change in scenery when leaving the dry savannah behind and arriving at the lush shores of this freshwater lake. In the afternoon you can stretch your legs and go on a walking safari in the private nature reserve Crescent Island. You’ll see familiar faces: giraffes, wildebeest, zebras and impalas roam this tranquil peninsula. A walking safari is a unique opportunity to get close to the animals and immerse yourself in these enchanting natural surroundings. You will spend the night on a campsite at the lake shore under tall yellow-barked acacias. Listen to the call of the fish eagles and watch hippos graze on the river banks from a safe distance. A magical place to spend the night.

Leaving Lake Naivasha behind, you head south towards Amboseli National Park close to the border to Tanzania. Amboseli is well-known for its large elephant herds, marching peacefully through the wetlands against the backdrop of the tallest mountain in Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro. You’ll arrive in Amboseli in the afternoon and embark on your first game drive right away. Together with your guide, you will look for the Big Five and many more species, observing and learning about their behaviour and habitat. You will spend the night on a campsite inside the national park. Listen closely to the nightly sounds of hyenas and nocturnal birds you are starting to recognise on your fourth night camping in the Kenyan wilderness.

No day on safari is the same and you can look forward to a day full of game drives around Amboseli National Park. While the region is dominated by a dry and hot climate, the melting snow caps of Kilimanjaro turn Amboseli in a green oasis of wetlands in the rainy season, attracting many animals and different bird species. A dusty salt desert of the mostly dried-up Lake Amboseli stretches over the border to Tanzania. You are in no rush and have ample time to linger and observe the animals’ behaviour extensively. Leave the rest of the world behind and arrive in the small moments which make a safari unique. Return to your campsite inside the national park and enjoy a delicious camp dinner before you tuck yourself in for another night in the bush.

After a hearty breakfast you will leave Amboseli and make your way further south to Kenya’s largest national park: Tsavo East National Park. On more than 11.500 square kilometres countless opportunities for wildlife encounters await you. Tsavo East is known for its “red” elephant herds. The gentle giants dust themselves in the red soil of the region to protect themselves from sun and insects. Keep your eyes peeled for the rare Hunter hartebeest and the gerenuk – an antelope with a giraffe-like neck. At the riverbanks and in the grasslands, you can spot kudus, waterbucks and more than 600 different bird species. You will spend the night on a campsite inside the national park.

In the morning, you will go on a last game drive exploring the vast Tsavo East National Park. After only a short drive you will then arrive at the Tsavo Conservancy in the afternoon. The Tsavo Conservancy is a wildlife corridor between Tsavo East and West National Parks enabling wildlife to roam freely within the greater Tsavo Conservation Area. It is home to elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and zebras. Spend a few hours relaxing at the campsite, reading a book or thinking back on your experiences of the week, before you join your fellow travellers for your last dinner in the bush. Tonight will also be the last time you sleep in your tent and underneath Kenya’s wide starry night sky.

After spending many hours in the car during the past days, it is time again to get active. On a casual 4-hour hike, starting a short drive from your campsite, you can stretch your legs and enjoy views across the wide Marungu Hills. You will be accompanied by a guide from the Tsavo Conservancy who shares his knowledge about the local vegetation and wildlife. A great opportunity to get up close with Kenya’s flora and fauna. You have now spent a full week in the great outdoors and it is time to dust-off the red soil and relax. After the hike, we take a back route through the scenic Shimba Hills to arrive at the beautiful shores of Diani Beach.
