Tour Summary
7 Nights
Meals: 7 Breakfasts 7 Lunches 6 Dinners
Day 1: Make Your Way into the Cedarberg
Leaving Cape Town, travel north towards the spectacular rock formations of the Cederberg Mountains. Take the afternoon to explore these sandstone and shale mountains as you get to know your fellow travelers.
Day 2: Cross Into Namibia
Continuing north through the Namaqualand region, you’ll come to the Orange River – your stop for the night. As you journey north, marvel at the vastness of this big sky country where in the spring the semi-arid land explodes with colour from the immense number of wild flowers which bloom.
Day 3: Wander Around the Fish River Canyon
After breakfast, why not venture down the Gariep River – the Nama name for the Orange River – in a canoe, or if you’d rather just relax along the riverbank and a swim.
Hop back into the tour vehicle after lunch, and head to the impressive, natural beauty that is the second largest canyon in the world, Fish River Canyon. Later, make your way to Ai-Ais and your accommodation for the night.
Day 4: Discovering the Quiver Tree in the Kalahari
Today travel more inland, through the Kokerboom forest to the Kalahari region of Namibia. The Kokerboom is often referred to as the Quiver Tree as it was used by the local Khosian people to make quivers for their arrows.
Once at your accommodation that afternoon, there is an opportunity to go on an optional tour of the guesthouse’s farm and its historic sights.
Day 5: Get to Know the !Kung People
TThis morning those who wish to spend some time with the !Kung, will have the chance to do so. The !Kung people are hunter gatherers who have a remarkable knowledge of this semi-arid region in which they live. All proceeds from this visit go towards the !Kung community.
Later you drive west towards Sossusvlei and enter the Namib region.
Day 6: Hike up Dune 45
This morning depart at dawn and drive through the Namib-Naukluft National Park to the massive Dune 45. Hike up this imposing sand dune as the sun rises turning the red sand into shades of oranges and apricots.
Later you can hike through the remote sand dune region of Sossusvlei to the Deadvlei – a clay pan that is dotted with several dead camel thorn trees.
Day 7: Walk the Streets of Swakopmund
Drive across the arid Namib-Naukluft National Park towards the Atlantic coast as you pass through the moon-like Kuiseb valley, and over the Tropic of Capircorn at the Guab pass.
Once at the coast, make a quick stop in Walvis Bay to see its famous lagoon filled with large flocks of flamingos that frequent the area before heading to the idyllic coastal town of Swakopmund.
Spend the rest of the day experiencing all that Swakopmund has to offer from adventure activities, such as skydiving, and quad biking, to quaint café and shops in the central area. Finish your day with a group dinner (not included) at one of the many restaurants in town.
Day 8: End Your Tour in Swakopmund
After breakfast, say goodbye to your group as you head home, or plan to continue your adventure elsewhere.
