Days 7-9: Taking the Ferry to the Spice Island

This morning board the ferry for the ‘Spice Island,’ Zanzibar, where you’ll spend the next three nights on an optional excursion of the island. The itinerary is yours to design, and at your own expense, so spend as much of the excursion in Stone Town, on a beach, or a combination of both. Your guide will be on hand to help you with any bookings or logistical questions.

Stone Town is the largest town on the island and the starting point for most visitors when they arrive. These days, Stone Town still maintains much of its Arabic history, and this is evident as you wander the narrow streets, and stop in the many shops and cafes.

Day trips to other parts of the island, a spice plantation, or Prison Island can easily be arranged as can a sunset dhow cruise which will offer some great photos of the shoreline as the sunsets.

If beaches are what you’re after, then Zanzibar will not disappoint. Much of the north is lined with white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Spend a night or two on either the east or west coast booking a few underwater excursions, or simply just relax on the beach with a cool drink soaking up the sun’s rays.
